2013 Ford Mustang GT 500 vs Camaro ZL 1 Video

Is there a need to compare such most powerful and updated cars that can ever exist as the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 and the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL 1? Isn’t it a real modern-day horsepower war between these outstanding manufacturers? The cars taken to the same dynojet at MD Automobile on the same day have both proved to be the most efficient and fastest muscle cars of the current moment. The test showed that the ZL 1 missed 80 hp from the manufacturer’s rating while the GT 500 lost only 50 hp. The technical characteristics feature that the ZL 1 has got a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 580 horsepower, and the Shelby GT 500 comes up with a supercharged 5.8-liter one belting out 662 hp. The other parameters reveal a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 184 miles per hour for the ZL 1, and 3.7 seconds and a top speed of about 200 mph for the GT 500. Both cars are operated by a six-speed manual transmission. Nevertheless, they have managed to split at something like 82 hp and 75 lb-ft.

The war is not finished yet. That’s why both cars were compared on the track. This gave some advantages to the Camaro since it is 227 pounds heavier than the Mustang. It led to more safety and comfort at steep turnings which, in its turn, added up about 4.4 seconds of advantage. Though, a better visibility of the Mustang and its lighter weight are of great value on the straight high-speed track at 4.0 seconds the Shelby was quicker here.

The cars are quite equal, you may say. Yes, they are. So, why compete? Further testing is likely to show the reason.
