2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Returns with Bold New Styling

The legendary Boss 302 makes a strong comeback for 2013 with refreshed styling, heritage-inspired details, and the same track-ready performance that made the previous model such a standout among modern muscle cars.

Although the 2013 version keeps the powerful 5.0-liter V8 from the outgoing model, Ford focused heavily on refining the car’s appearance and celebrating the legacy of the iconic Boss 302 nameplate. According to Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak, the goal for the new model year was to enhance the car’s visual presence while honoring its historic roots.

The updated Boss 302 features several styling cues inspired by the classic 1970 model. One of the most noticeable additions is the return of the signature “hockey stick” side graphics paired with reflective striping, giving the car a distinctly retro performance vibe. Ford also introduced a vibrant School Bus Yellow paint option, paying tribute to Parnelli Jones’ championship-winning Trans-Am Boss 302 race car from 1970.

Additional exterior enhancements include Sterling Gray accents on the grille, mirrors, and rear spoiler, along with a redesigned front fascia featuring a larger grille, revised splitter, functional hood extractors, HID headlights, and smoked LED taillights. A gloss-black rear panel between the taillamps further adds to the aggressive styling theme.

Performance remains a key focus for the Boss 302. Power comes from the proven 5.0-liter V8 producing 444 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Ford also refined the suspension setup with stiffer springs, upgraded bushings, and a larger rear stabilizer bar to improve handling and overall track performance. Lightweight 19-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires and paired with Brembo brakes complete the performance package.

Inside, the 2013 Boss 302 gains Ford’s SYNC infotainment system, offering Bluetooth connectivity, voice-activated controls, USB media support, and 911 Assist emergency services for added convenience and modern functionality.

The 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 was introduced at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, joining the rest of Ford’s updated Mustang lineup. While competitors like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 may offer higher horsepower numbers, the Boss 302 continues to deliver a balanced blend of performance, heritage, and unmistakable muscle car character.
