2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Set for Debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show

Although the modern Boss 302 has only been on the market for a short time, Ford has already refreshed the 2013 Mustang Boss 302 and Boss 302 Laguna Seca with updated styling and heritage-inspired details. The new design pays tribute to the legendary 1970 Boss 302 driven by Parnelli Jones to a Trans-Am championship victory.

“Everything we did for 2013 connects directly to the car’s 1970 roots,” explained Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak. “The reflective stripes and hockey stick graphics are details that true Mustang fans will immediately recognize. Last year we proved the Boss could perform, and this year we focused on sharpening its appearance while honoring its legacy.”

Among the most noticeable updates are several redesigned exterior elements. The 2013 Boss 302 adopts a more aggressive front fascia inspired by the Shelby GT500, along with HID projector headlights featuring LED accent lighting. Additional upgrades include a vented hood, revised LED taillights, body-colored lower trim pieces, and removable fog light delete panels that improve airflow and cooling during extended track sessions.

Under the hood, the Boss 302 carries over the same high-performance setup from the previous model year. Power comes from a specially tuned 5.0-liter V8 producing 444 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. A close-ratio six-speed manual transmission with a race-inspired clutch sends power to the rear wheels, while 3.73 rear gears help maximize acceleration. Buyers looking for even sharper handling can also opt for a Torsen limited-slip differential.

Ford retained the Boss 302’s adjustable race-tuned suspension, ensuring the 2013 model delivers the same track-ready capability as its predecessor. Stopping power comes from a Brembo brake package with four-piston front calipers and large 14-inch vented rotors, while upgraded high-friction rear brake pads improve overall braking performance.

For 2013, the Boss 302 also gains new visual signatures, including a reflective hockey-stick side graphic with integrated Boss 302 badging. A bold center stripe stretches across the vented hood shared with the updated Mustang GT. Meanwhile, the Laguna Seca edition introduces an exclusive School Bus Yellow paint finish paired with reflective Sterling Gray accents for an even more distinctive look.
