2013 Ford Mustang Facelift Revealed in Spy Shots

The most significant overhaul of the Ford Mustang since the launch of the fifth generation in 2005 is set for the 2014 model year, aligning with the model’s 50th anniversary. Before that, however, Ford prepared a refreshed version for 2013, and early spy shots have given us a preview of what’s to come.

Scheduled for its official debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, the updated 2013 Mustang brings a series of subtle but meaningful changes across the lineup—from the base V6 all the way up to the Shelby GT500.

The prototype captured in these spy shots is the Mustang GT, which continues to feature a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Visually, the updates include a revised front fascia, updated Mustang badging, LED lighting elements, and a redesigned rear bumper. While the exterior tweaks are relatively understated, much of the improvement happens beneath the surface.

Both the 3.7-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 engines are expected to carry over with slight power increases over their previous outputs of 305 and 412 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Shelby GT500 could see a significant boost, with estimates ranging between 570 and 620 horsepower.

Inside, the 2013 Mustang is expected to gain modern tech upgrades, including new performance gauges, a 4.2-inch LCD display in the instrument cluster, and the latest version of the MyFord Touch infotainment system.

The official unveiling is set for the Los Angeles Auto Show, where Ford will showcase the updated Mustang ahead of its 2013 release.
