Ford added an eye-catching new feature to the 2013 Mustang by integrating a miniature projector into the side mirrors. When the doors are unlocked, the system projects the iconic Mustang pony logo onto the ground beside the car, giving the classic muscle car an extra touch of personality and style.
The creative feature quickly became one of the most talked-about additions to the refreshed Mustang lineup. Ford engineers reportedly went through several design revisions before perfecting the projection system and achieving the clean, sharp image displayed beside the vehicle.
The illuminated pony logo is part of a broader update package introduced for the 2013 Mustang during its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Alongside the new projection feature, the updated Mustang received a redesigned front end with a larger grille, revised headlights, a more aggressive splitter, and functional hood heat extractors on GT models.
Performance also saw a boost for 2013. The Mustang GT’s popular 5.0-liter V8 engine was upgraded to deliver 420 horsepower, giving drivers even more performance to match the car’s bold new appearance.
Additional updates included new wheel designs, improved lighting elements, and refreshed styling details across the lineup. The 2013 Mustang was expected to arrive at dealerships in early 2012 as Ford continued its rivalry with the Chevrolet Camaro in the modern muscle car market.
While competitors focused heavily on horsepower wars, Ford added smaller details like the projected pony emblem to make the Mustang feel more distinctive and memorable for owners and enthusiasts alike.
