After months of rumors and leaked images hinting at a new green paint option for the 2013 Ford Mustang, Ford officially unveiled the striking “Gotta Have It Green” finish at the 2011 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in Orlando.
Known for showcasing high-performance and racing-oriented vehicles at PRI, Ford once again used the event to attract enthusiasts, this time with a specially prepared 2013 Mustang GT finished in the bold metallic green color. While early speculation suggested the shade might be exclusive to the Boss 302, the appearance of a Mustang GT wearing the vibrant paint hinted at wider availability across the lineup.
The display car featured far more than just new paint. Ford equipped the Mustang GT with an extensive range of Ford Racing upgrades, including a powerful 624-horsepower Ford Racing/Whipple supercharger setup, a high-flow exhaust system with rear and side-exit outlets, upgraded suspension components, 19-inch black wheels borrowed from the GT Track Pack, and a race-inspired front splitter similar to the one used on the Boss 302.
The PRI show also gave many enthusiasts their first close-up look at the refreshed 2013 Mustang styling, which incorporates several design elements inspired by the Shelby GT500. Combined with the vivid green paint and performance modifications, the car quickly became one of the standout attractions at the event.
Although Ford did not officially confirm which Mustang models would receive the Gotta Have It Green option, the showcase suggested that the color could extend beyond the Boss 302 to include the Mustang GT and possibly other variants in the lineup.
To further highlight the car’s modifications, Ford even displayed the Mustang tilted onto its side, allowing visitors to examine the upgraded underbody components and suspension setup in detail.
With its aggressive styling, extensive performance upgrades, and unmistakable paint finish, the Gotta Have It Green Mustang GT delivered one of the most memorable appearances of the 2011 PRI Show.
