Ford has given its Mustang lineup a noticeable refresh for the 2013 model year, introducing updated styling inspired by the Shelby GT500 along with a handful of technology and performance upgrades across the range.
Every 2013 Mustang receives a redesigned front end featuring revised lower air intakes and a sharper front splitter. HID headlights are now standard across the lineup, while GT models add a new hood with functional heat extractors and optional HID fog lights for a more aggressive appearance.
Additional exterior updates include body-colored side skirts and rear lower bumper trim, along with newly designed 17-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch wheel options. Around back, Ford adds a gloss-black panel between the updated taillights to give the car a more modern and upscale look.
One of the more distinctive features is integrated into the side mirrors, which now project the Mustang pony logo onto the pavement whenever the doors are unlocked. Ford also expands the available paint palette with new shades of green and blue for 2013.
Inside the cabin, buyers can opt for Recaro performance seats, while new technology options include Ford’s Track Apps system, capable of displaying acceleration, braking, and performance statistics directly in the instrument cluster. The MyFord Touch infotainment system is also available.
Under the hood, the 3.7-liter V6 continues unchanged with 305 horsepower, while the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 receives a slight bump to 420 horsepower. Automatic GT models now offer manual-style shifting functionality, giving drivers more control behind the wheel.
Ford also introduces an optional GT Track Pack for manual-transmission GT models equipped with the 3.73 rear axle. The package includes Brembo brakes and a Torsen limited-slip differential borrowed from the Boss 302 for improved handling and track performance.
The Boss 302 itself returns with minor updates, including new graphics, fresh paint choices, and removable fog-light covers designed to improve airflow and cooling during aggressive driving. Power from the high-revving 5.0-liter V8 remains unchanged at 444 horsepower.
The updated 2013 Ford Mustang lineup is scheduled to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show before arriving in U.S. dealerships in early 2012, with international markets expected to follow later in the year.
