2013 Ford Mustang Receives New Styling and Increased Performance

Ford officially revealed the updated 2013 Mustang lineup, bringing refreshed styling, new technology features, and more power to its iconic muscle car. The latest version of the Mustang introduces a more aggressive appearance along with several performance-focused upgrades designed to keep the car competitive in the modern pony car segment.

One of the biggest visual changes is the redesigned front fascia, which takes inspiration from the Shelby GT500 with a larger grille, revised lower intakes, and a more aggressive overall look. GT models also receive a new hood with functional heat extractors, while optional LED lighting elements enhance the updated headlights.

The exterior refinements continue with body-colored rocker panels replacing the previous black trim pieces, giving the Mustang a cleaner and more premium appearance. At the rear, Ford added smoked LED taillights connected by a gloss-black center panel inspired by the Boss 302. New wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches and fresh paint options such as Gotta Have It Green and Deep Impact Blue further modernize the lineup.

Ford also introduced several interior and technology upgrades for 2013. Recaro sport seats became available for both V6 and GT models, while vehicles equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission gained the new SelectShift manual control feature. GT buyers could also choose an optional Track Package that included Brembo brakes, a Torsen limited-slip differential, a 3.73 rear axle ratio, and performance-oriented upgrades designed for track driving.

The Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8 engine received a power increase to 420 horsepower, delivering stronger performance than before while maintaining the character enthusiasts loved. Ford also added a new Track Apps display system that provides real-time performance data and driving statistics directly through the instrument cluster.

Meanwhile, the limited-production Boss 302 returned for 2013 with unique heritage-inspired styling cues, including reflective “hockey stick” side graphics and a new School Bus Yellow paint finish. Ford also improved cooling for track use by making the front fog lamp inserts removable during high-performance driving sessions.

With its combination of updated styling, added technology, and enhanced performance, the 2013 Mustang lineup continued Ford’s push to keep the legendary pony car fresh and competitive.
