2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Reveals New 5.8-Liter Engine

The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 made its official debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, showcasing its aggressive styling and impressive performance credentials. However, many people didn’t realize that the display car at the event was not fitted with the all-new 5.8-liter engine. Instead, it still carried the older 5.4-liter powerplant. This image provides a closer look at the actual engine that would power the production model.

Visually, the new engine closely resembles its predecessor, though the biggest upgrades are found beneath the surface. One of the key additions is a new 2.3-liter TVS 2300 supercharger, which delivers significantly improved airflow compared to the setup used on the previous 550-horsepower version.

Thanks to these upgrades, the supercharged V8 produces an incredible 650 horsepower, making the 2013 Shelby GT500 one of the most powerful production Mustangs ever built at the time.
