2013 Ford Mustang Steals the Show at Los Angeles Auto Show Debut

Ford officially unveiled the refreshed 2013 Mustang lineup during a high-profile event in Los Angeles, putting the spotlight firmly on the new Shelby GT500 and its massive 650-horsepower output. Joined by the eye-catching Boss 302 and Mustang convertible models, the latest pony car lineup made a dramatic entrance ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The headline attraction was undoubtedly the Shelby GT500, now packing an extra 100 horsepower over the previous version. Even automotive legend Carroll Shelby praised the new model during the reveal event at the Belasco Theater.

Speaking to the crowd after being introduced by Ford executive Jim Farley, Shelby called the new GT500 “the greatest Mustang ever built.” He also joked that although he had always said his favorite car was “the next one,” the new GT500 had officially become his top pick.

Ford celebrated the launch with a live performance by alternative rock band The Bravery, adding extra energy to the Mustang’s West Coast debut.

The 2013 Mustang lineup introduces a number of styling upgrades, including a more aggressive front fascia, HID headlights with LED accent strips, and updated sequential taillights that flash in sync with the turn signals. Performance also gets a boost, with the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 now producing 420 horsepower, up from the previous 412-hp rating.
