Ford Racing has officially unveiled the 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Orlando, continuing the legendary drag-racing legacy that first began in 1968.
The Cobra Jet name remains one of the most respected badges in Ford performance history, originally earning fame after dominating the NHRA Winternationals decades ago. Ford revived the program in 2008 with the limited-production 40th Anniversary Cobra Jet Mustang, and demand proved so strong that the entire run quickly sold out.
Now, the latest 2013 Cobra Jet arrives with even more performance-focused upgrades aimed squarely at serious drag racers.
Ford Racing is offering the new Cobra Jet with two versions of its 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8 engine. Buyers can choose a naturally aspirated setup featuring CNC-ported cylinder heads, aggressive high-lift camshafts, and a low-drag accessory drive system. For those seeking even greater performance, a supercharged variant is also available, equipped with a Whipple supercharger and upgraded Ford Racing induction components.
The 2013 Cobra Jet has also been refined structurally to improve drag-strip performance. Engineers reduced body weight to achieve better balance and weight distribution, while electric power steering helps lower parasitic power loss and improve efficiency.
Additional enhancements include updated suspension geometry optimized for stronger 60-foot launches, improved brake pedal feel, and a reinforced roll cage with added safety upgrades for competition use.
Ford confirmed that every 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang will be NHRA tech-ready for Stock and Super Stock racing classes straight from the factory. Production will remain extremely limited, with only 50 units planned.
Pricing starts at $85,490 for the naturally aspirated model, while the supercharged version begins at $92,990, making the Cobra Jet one of the most exclusive factory-built drag Mustangs ever offered.
