Ford Racing continued its tradition of building track-focused Mustangs with the debut of the 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302SX Concept at the 2011 PRI Show in Orlando.
Finished in the eye-catching School Bus Yellow paint scheme, the Boss 302SX joins an impressive lineup of factory-built race cars that includes the FR500C, Boss 302R, Boss 302S, and Cobra Jet. Like its racing siblings, the 302SX is not street legal, but it was engineered specifically for serious road racing competition. It also incorporates the updated styling introduced across the 2013 non-Shelby Mustang lineup.
Under the hood sits the same high-performance 5.0-liter V8 found in the Boss 302R, enhanced with an upgraded oil cooler, improved cooling system, revised fuel setup, Ford Racing mufflers, and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Power is delivered through a six-speed manual transmission designed for track duty.
The chassis receives extensive racing upgrades, including a Dynamic Suspensions coil-over setup, adjustable Ford Racing stabilizer bars, tubular control arms, and caster/camber plates for precise tuning. Braking performance is handled by a Brembo system with four-piston front calipers, 14-inch front rotors, 12-inch rear rotors, performance brake pads, cooling ducts, and a specially calibrated ABS system from Ford Racing.
The car rides on lightweight 18x9.5-inch wheels wrapped in race-spec tires, giving the Boss 302SX the grip and agility expected from a purpose-built track machine.
Inside, the interior has been completely transformed for racing. The cabin features a Recaro HANS Pro Racer seat, FIA-approved six-point roll cage, fire suppression system, data logging equipment, six-point racing harness, and a quick-release steering wheel.
Exterior enhancements include a larger front splitter, a massive adjustable rear wing, and exclusive badging that distinguishes the 302SX from other Mustang variants.
Ford Racing did not announce official pricing, though the level of performance equipment suggests the Boss 302SX would target serious racers seeking a factory-engineered Mustang race car. With race-ready components throughout, it stands as one of the most focused and capable track Mustangs of its era.
