It’s hard not to feel a little envious of Vaughn Gittin Jr. Not only is he regarded as one of the top drivers in the world, but he’s also an elite-level drift specialist with a style that sets him apart.
What really makes him stand out, though, is the custom Ford Mustang RTR he pilots during the Formula Drift season.
For 2012, Gittin Jr. campaigned an extreme Mustang built specifically for competition, featuring a heavily modified 6.7-liter V8 engine producing around 800 horsepower. Developed by Ford Racing and Roush Yates, the 410-cubic-inch powerplant gives him serious performance capability as he looks to rebound from an 11th-place finish in the 2011 standings.
Heading into the 2012 season, Gittin Jr. aimed for a strong comeback, targeting a return to championship contention just a couple of years after his previous title run.
With an 800-horsepower Mustang RTR beneath him, expectations were high for another dominant season from one of drifting’s most recognized names.
